Video Game Testing - Is it Really That Hard?
You know what has really been making me mad lately about what everyone has been saying lately about video game testing. It is not what you would think. It is not the people saying "oh video game testing, it's the easiest job in the world, and it is going to make you rich." Now I do obviously disagree with these people, but it is not what has been making me furious over the last couple of days.
Let me give you some background information first. I am not some video game testing guru bringing in the big bucks, like what most affiliates want you to think about them. I am just an average video game tester bringing in enough money to support myself. I make my own hours, and I am my own boss. I love to play video games, and I hope to only use testing them as a way to get myself out there. I want to someday actually design the games that all of the people reading this article play every day.
If you do want to become a video game tester, but you do not love video games, please stop reading this article right now. Go back to working for that boss of your's that does not appreciate your effort. This industry is only for the people that love to play. Back to what this article is actually about, the thing that people have been saying that has been making me furious. Now I have a college level friend who right now is a wash boy for a car dealership. Right now he is only making minimum wage. He has to work almost fifty hours a week, with no paid overtime. His boss drives him crazy, and right now he is working outside every day in the below zero weather. O yeah did I mention he is only making minimum wage!
What is making me mad is that I have been reading tons and tons of articles talking about how hard video game testing is, when I just want to ask some of these people: have you ever had a real job before!? I mean come on, is sitting inside your cozy home, making your own hours, while playing video games really that hard? No of course it is not. The only people that think it is hard are the people not willing to work. Do not let someone that all they do all day long is comment Facebook and answer questions in Yahoo answers tell you what is hard and what isn't. I can tell you right now that while my friend is outside working for hours on end in the freezing weather, I am only finding bugs in video games in the comfort of my own home. It can get boring I know that, but i guess that is where you need to make a choice.
The way I see it, everyone reading this article wanting to become a video game tester, has two choices to make. The first choice: you agree with the lazy people in the world that think that one ounce of work is too much work. Or choice number two: you find out for yourself. Right now you could just give up before you ever even get started, or you can just try it out. I mean what do you have to lose? My answer to that is pretty much nothing. I mean yes you might have to pay like 30 or 40 bucks to sign up, but you will make all of that back on your first job. I think most places, or at least the place that I recommend, offer a money back guarantee if you do not find a job within the first 30 days. You have nothing to lose and so much to gain.
For the people that choose choice number two. I recommend signing up for a company to do all of the hard work for you, just so that you can work on the important stuff like actually playing the games. I like Elite Game Tester a lot. They are legit and if you want to check them out, just go to http://myplayvideogames.com. That website will have more information as well as a link to Elite Game Tester. If you would just like some more random information about video game testing check out my Squidoo lens at http://www.squidoo.com/Video-Games-How-to-become-a-video-game-tester. O yeah and I have a couple of other ezine articles all about video game testing. Make sure you take a look. That is all for now and remember, do not give up on this business. If other people can make money this way, so can you!
